If there were a recurring theme in my life, it would have to be “Nothing is certain but change.” Of course, not everyone may see this as a driving force, but for me it has always served as a great motivator. In my opinion, success boils down to three things:

  • Establishing structured goals and creating/implementing a master plan to achieve those goals
  • Developing the skills, knowledge and expertise-in short, the tools-to be successful
  • Providing top-quality service to customers

As you will see from my enclosed resume, this strategy has also served me well in business development over the last 12 years. For example, after working as a medical laboratory technician for eight years, I changed career paths-investing four years of professional and academic training to become a chiropractic physician. As a self-starting, focused professional, I achieved this goal, eventually establishing my own practice, which I operated quite profitably for more than eight years. Last year, I sold the practice (at a profit) and moved to Asheville (from Charlotte), where I have managed (very hands-on) a satellite office of another physician.

During the business development phase of my practice-which I always treated as a business-I sought additional training in sales and marketing, receiving ideas and inspiration from the best “gurus” in the business, such as Jay Conrad Levinson (Guerilla Marketing); Jay Abraham (How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be); Chet Holmes (The Seven Steps to Every Sale and The 10 Follow-up Steps for Bonding with Clients); Kenneth Blanchard (The One-Minute Manager and The Heart of a Leader); Napoleon Hill (Think and Grow Rich); and Dale Carnegie (How to Win Friends and Influence People), among many others. With Holmes, Abraham and Levinson, I participated in a 90-minute, monthly interactive seminar.

I implemented these ideas in my practice, applying sales and marketing strategies to grow the business. My point in telling you all of this is twofold: (1) to provide some substantive evidence of self-motivation and (2) to demonstrate, as my resume attests, personal sales, marketing and business success. Seeking professional growth, and no stranger to change, I now want to change the course of my life once again.

What do I want to do now? Apply my sales, marketing and business development, relationship-building and medical experience to a career in pharmaceutical sales. I have extensive medical knowledge, an understanding of the physician’s mind-set and a desire to succeed.
